Double Action Candle

The procedure to dress a double action candle is presented.  The reason one would use a double action candle would be to reverse or send back the negativity and to re-claim and purify what was cursed by the negativity.  It is like a “return to sender” and purification.  The candle is cut on the top and trimmed on the bottom so that it may be burned up-side down.

Thank you for your educational videos! Regarding double action candles and their intent of sending negativity back to the sender. Could a person do this ‘intention’ if they do not have a double action candle? I have a black candle and a white candle separate from one another. How can I use my two separate candles to send negativity back to the sender? I look forward to hearing from you!

  2. magic says:

yes, you absolutely can use 1 black candle and 1 white candle; sometimes we must use what we have on hand when necessary. here’s what to do: prepare each candle accordingly; the black candle with the person’s name written backwards and the white candle carved with your name how you normally write it. bless or dress the candles with oil. place each candle in a holder. put a line of seasalt around each candle. cast your circle around each candle. light the black one first, let it burn completely, sending the negativity back to the person, return to sender. when that is spent, light the white candle to claim what back your energy from this person. then let that burn. lift the circles. dispose of the remains. that should do the trick! blessed be.

  3. diane says:

Thank you so much for your video’s they really helped me a lot especially on how to dress a candle, i think I’ve been doing it wrong. How do you dispose of the salt after the candle is finished?? Thanks again…Much Blessings to you.

    • magic says:

hello diane, this is an excellent question. generally the salt is disposed with the “remains” of the spell. when the candle has completed burning, it gets wrapped up with the salt and anything else related to the spell. for a double action candle, the remains may be tossed into a stream or crossroads to dispurse the energy and to make it difficult to track the magic from psychic trackers. one could also burry the remains at a crossroads as well. the salt goes with the remains as a way to absorb any remaining negativity. what a great question. many blessings of everything good.

  4. diane says:

p.s. would you dress a jar candle the same way? thanks.

    • magic says:

i would recommend adding a bit to the jar candle dressing. after you dress the jar candle the same way as a taper, i would also dress the rim with oil by going counter-clockwise 3x and blessing it in the name of what is good, holy and right and true. just get a bit of oil on your finger tips and using the index and thumb, with index on the outside of the rim and thumb on the inside of the rim, go in a counter-clockwise motion on the rim, completing the circle three times and say, “i bless the in the name of what is good, holy and right and true, so mote it be” or a similiar incantation. that way the opening where the flame does it’s magic is protected and not influenced by any energy in the rim. if you use a tea light, i generally bless this with a bit of oil on the bottom, counterclockwise on the sides and then the tip, counter clockwise, finishing on the wick, using a similiar incantation. you ask the most brilliant questions. thank you very much for your contribution. always finish with “so mote it be” or “blessed be” or “amen” to affirm your work. blessings of love and peace.

Thank you so much for your great videos. My question is, if someone uses the double action candle to send the negative energy back to the sender, how can someone protect himself or herself from any other bad spell or negativity from that same sender or from anyone else who wants to do something wrong to you?

    • magic says:

that is a very good question. there are many ways to protect yourself. wearing a charm such as an evil eye protection amulet or italian horn is one way to protect from jealousy and envy. other forms of protection that involve amulets are various crystals that are programmed for protection. a nice combination of amethyst, carnelian, chlorite included quartz and ruby (does not have to be gem quality) makes a great shaman’s pouch. lighting 3 white candles (after cleansing and blessing/annointing) and asking for protection during the dark moon phase is another form of protection. also, asking for protection in prayer is another way. you could also use a pendulum to banish evil and you can use selinite to close any portals (go in a counter-clockwise direction) will also get rid of the access any evil one would have to you. after closing portals, you would have to deal with the effects/impact, so burning sage to banish or a combination of copal (black and white), camphor and pine works nicely. keeping vigiliant and praying works very well. seasalt is an excellent protection, evil cannot cross seasalt. there are other methods; i hope these are helpful. many blessings of everything good to you.

  6. Iline Fort says:

Hello once again. Can you please tell me how do I use sea-salt for protection?

    Thanks.

    • magic says:

there are lots of excellent ways to use sea salt for protection. i like to use the coarse seasalt. you can put seasalt in little bowls around the house. change the seasalt every dark moon. the seasalt absorbs negativity. if you are doing a ritual, you can actually build a circle of coarse seasalt on the floor…you would construct this circle counter-clockwise (clockwise would open a portal) and do your ritual inside of the circle…nothing evil can cross the seasalt. you can also cast a circle of sea salt around a candle before lighting..of course you would need to bless the candle before you use it. you can carry a pouch of sea salt with you as well…seasalt is crystalized sonic healing from the sea…the water cycle rains water on the land and purifies the air…it makes its way to the ocean via streams and rivers. once in the ocean, the dolphins and whales sing to sonically purify the water and if you take water from the sea, once evaporated, you would have sea salt left…crystalized sonic healing that transforms negativity…so the salt absorbs the negativite energy and needs changing. you can also add the sea salt to the bath water for purification when you bathe. another very good use of sea salt is to have a bowl by the front door. when you come in, sprinkle some around your aura, take off your shoes and let the bottom of your feet scratch like a chicken the sea salt..there are chakras on the bottom of your feet, so that would help dispell any negativity as well. i hope this is helpful. thank you for your question. blessings of love and peace.

I would like to do a money spell but it calls for a double action candle,.but I can’t find one. Can I use a green & black candle that are seperate? If I can use 2 seperate candles does that weaken the spell at all? are double action candles better then 2 seperate candles? If you could send your reply to my email
    address

    • magic says:

what an excellent question! yes, you could definately use two different candles! you would bless or annoint the black away from you as a banishing of blockages to manafesting money and the green would be a drawing annointment, toward you. please see the video on blessing candles because this is important. then you would burn the black one first, wait until it completely burns down, then light the green one. when the green one is finished, then you may disassemble the remains appropriately. many blessings of abundance and prosperity!

Hey Marianne. Its so good to speak to you again about wisdom and knowledge. I have been embracing my inner “witch” so to speak and things have been absolutely wonderful. I had a question about the double action candle. Being that a double action candle is used with black wax would it also be possible to use a colored wax in place of black particularly if you feel is a cross condition or spell has affected one person that is more specific. For example if I was having bad love problems that someone was casting upon me would I be able to use a red or pink candle adhering to magical correspondences of course in conjunction with a white candle if I didn’t have a black candle or black wax on hand, as well for other specific spells like crossed money conditions like a white and green. I have also seen double action candles that are black on one half and color on the other like red or blue or green. Would using those also have the same affect is not using white and a colored wax. Is there much difference. I would really appreciate any advice you could offer, I’m iffy about the black and colored double action candles trying very hard not to send myself or anyone any harm. Your knowledge would definitely put aside my phobias about substituting colors for more specific purposes. Thank you so much for listening. Bless you darling !!

    • magic says:

ah, this is such a brilliant question. the purpose of a black and white double action candle is a very good general candle to transmute the darkness and return it to sender (black wax) and reclaim the light (white wax). you most certainly can use a black and red double action candle for love; black and green for money. you can even use two separate candles, you would burn the black first, followed by the white or colored wax candle. the idea is to get rid of the darkness, return it to sender and fill the void with what was taken down, purified in the flame, returned to you. the intention is what matters, the real magic is within you. it is fine to use black and colored wax candles for their specific purpose. you are very wise to approach all magic with reverence. a good rule of thumb: never be caught without a black candle and a white candle. these are great multi-purpose candles. the part about not sending yourself or anyone else harm – employ the sacred insurance policy. the sacred insurance policy is offering everything you do in ritual to the divine for correction and/or completion, knowing we can make mistakes. and if it cannot be completed, corrected or causes us any karma, ask for your intention to be honored and the work destroyed. that way, the ego is completely out of it and you will have no worries interfering with your vibration of success and peace. lotsa love and blessings of everything good, Marianne….thanks so much for your question and for visiting http://www.underworldclassroom.com/

i am so glad you asked this question – it really is important. when working with fire magic, there are a few rules that i find really helpful. as frustrating as it is, and we have ALL made mistakes with candles, the best way to proceed is to get a new candle. i can’t tell you how many times i have improperly carved a candle or oiled it incorrectly or forgot to cast a circle…when i realize i made a mistake with candle magic, i scrap everything and start completely over. there is energy imprinted on the candle that you lit and blew out…never blow out a candle – always snuff it out. blowing out the candle scatters the energy; that’s why we blow out a birthday candle, to scatter the wish everywhere so it can come back. this is why i always have extra candles on hand because human error just happens…and it is most unfortunate the sales person didn’t know about how to use a double action candle; however, this also happens – there are glass encased candles that have the red part to burn first, gosh, can’t change this, but these are energetically incorrect – which brings up the excellent point you make – understand what you are doing and obviously you caught this, which is excellent! that’s the good news…if you continued to burn the candle, you would have tried to reclaim what was yours, then the black portion would have created a void, which may have activated something unwanted, so good you figured this out! everyone who does magic catches themselves making a mistake…simply start over. i always keep chime candles on hand – black candles and white candles. in a pinch, i can oil the black candle to get rid of the negative stuff and cut cords and oil the white candle to purify and reclaim what is mine. that way, if i make a mistake with a bigger candle and don’t have another one on hand, i can still do the magic. one time, i was carving the candle and i was so intent, i broke it. had to chuck that with some sea salt into the garbage. and wouldn’t you know it, i did the same thing 3x. i had to stop and close sacred space, have some tea..then i thought, ah, there might be a spell i am triggering…so i asked Archangel Michael to lift it, then i tried again with success. the most important thing to remember is that the unexpected happens and with fire magic, if there is a mistake, you pretty much have to start over again, but once you get the spell to proceed, fire magic is very powerful! so try again and don’t use the same candle. it is a very good question, but once you blow it out, it is a bit tainted and you want your magic to be executed, without question or doubt, successfully. jealousy is a horrible energy. realize your goodness is always more powerful and ask for all psychic cords to be cut – so mote it be. that will get you through until you can get another candle. thank you so much for your very important question. many blessings of everything good, with love and peace and light, marianne

I have a question or two. One is I did a green black reversal candle. I did it the right way asking for certain people or enemies that are hindering our finances to have it all sent back to them and anyone else who is harming our goals for prosperity. Ok. so it burned and I had to burn it 2 days to complete. Once the candle was 1/2 way burning down; it looked like the place on the black part where I specifically put the peoples names and enemies names seemed to curl into a kind of claw. once the candle burned down the wick didn’t go to the bottom 🙁 so it stopped burning. When it did the claw had turned into a wave with a figure in it and some other interesting things. That part did not burn down.. so does this mean my spell will still be granted or do I need to redo the spell?? I normally can see stuff that makes sense in candles but this one stumped me. Can you help?

Also, how do I dispose of a double action candle?? crossroads or stream…???

    Thanks 🙂

hello! hello! these are great questions – i think most magical people have wondered the same thing! the art of reading candle wax is called Ceromancy and the art of reading fire is called pyromancy. you are very skilled at reading the wax and this ritual provided you with information that was used to cast the spell to cause impedance to financial prosperity. the ceremony was successfully completed! seems the dark magic of using animal parts as place holding magic and the finger as a wand. this would tell me the finger as a wand used portal magic and the animal part was a place holding magic to keep the portal open. this is very good because you know what magic was used against you. and you would want to close these portals – to close a portal, use selenite in a counter clockwise motion (if you live in the northern hemisphere, clockwise for southern hemisphere) and while turning the selenite in the proper spin, use your mind to close all the portals that were corded to you and your chakras. pull back your energy. Then, flood yourself with white light and encase yourself in a cocoon of white light gauze. then, dut to the nature of portals being used, i would perform a similar ritual, this time with a black and white double action candle. the black and white would be a catch all for any where else you could be tapped or cursed. black and white are generic. you would want to do this because if the portals were previously connected to your chakras for finances, some other area may also be effected. the purpose of tossing the remains into the crossroads, is to make it difficult to track your magic due to the heavy amount of traffic at cross roads. the disposing of the remains into a stream requires the stream lead to the ocean – you can always check this on the internet. the purpose of tossing the remains into the stream is to give these to the undines or water spirits to take to the ocean for the Amakuas to transmute and create something new. if you throw the remains into the stream, pay the undines some coins and ask them to take the remains to the amakuas in the ocean. they will know what to do. if you toss into the crossroads, pay the crossroad spirits a few coins as well; it makes for an even exchange. here’s a little tidbit – if you decide on the stream, it is fine to watch the remains float away. if you toss into the crossroads, best not to look back so you cannot be tracked. well done with your ceromancy. you have a gift! blessings of goodness and love. thanks for your comment! marianne

Yes iam trying to do a double action candle and i was wondering how long to i burn the candle and can i kill it and restart it ? Or do i let it all burn at once i really need to no

    • magic says:

you most certainly can suspend the flame. always snuff it out and say, “suspending the flame, but not the prayer,” and say a little prayer. double action candles do take a long time to burn and safety first. 🙂

  13. Samantha says:

Hello yes I have someone doing black magic on me I’m having a hard time finding a job and she got me and my boyfriend to break up I want to get rid of it how can I do that ?

    • magic says:

hello! This is a tricky and complex question – it all depends upon the magic used; however, my best recommendation is to do a double action candle, only when the black part burns, ask the evil to be transmuted to goodness and light and send the evil ones the transmuted light and goodness – and request this energy can only be used to correct the evil they have done and to have it corrected within one lunar cycle and as the white part of the candle burns, ask what was taken/cursed, be purified and returned to you. dispose of the remains in a stream that leads to the ocean and pay the undine or water spirits to take it away. this should do the trick.

Hi I have a question, as we suffered a lot from magic spells issues, our distance relatives use to do some bad magic on our family and due to that we lost in most of time, and not able to make a progress, they keep repeating, but now they passed away and now new enemy has entered within our family and doing same magical harm to us some of the hindu magic as well as muslims magic, how to stop them without hurting our brother and other family members. thanks

    • magic says:

hello and thank you for your question. always remember good (white magic) is ALWAYS more powerful than evil (dark magic). if you use white magic, you will succeed and be more powerful. it is very important to remove any ego or ill thoughts or attachment to outcome for this prayer. you could use a double action candle and ask as the black burns, it transmutes (by the power of fire) any evil sent your way into goodness and blessings – all evil transmuted to love, blessings, light and goodness – only good wishes. then as the white part of the candle burns, the transmuted energy is encased in light and sent back to the evil one for blessings and love – and the good energy you send back to the evil one(s) can only be used to correct their karma, always with harm to none…..and ask that this entire ceremony be sustained so that any future evil they send will be transmuted and sent back as love to be used only to correct their errors. good is always more powerful. hope this is helpful. blessings.

I bought the purple and red reversivible candle and a open doors candle. Can I burn both at same time or do I do the reversivible first?

    • magic says:

hello! generally, the reversible or double action ritual would be done first, during the dark moon phase, for the best result. once the new moon arrives and during the waxing phase of moon, an opening door ritual would be done. the moon phase is not as important as the order in magic, so first clearing, then opening doors. these are big rituals, moving a lot of energy, so approach this with ease, one step at a time. this is such an excellent question because magic must be well thought out and understood. it is clear from your question that you understand the energy of the rituals, knowing the reverse clearing comes first. thank you so much. many blessings of goodness to you.

      • Linda says:

Thank you I have one more question. I wanted to do the candles on both me and my boyfriend. But I only bought one reversivible candle and only one road opener,I had bought the road opener with the oils and seeds in them already the reversivible one has nothing but something is telling me if i write hes name into that one he would recive what im trying to get rid of, so exactly how would I go about that? Also he don’t really believe in the candles will that effect what I am doing even tho I do believe and the one doin it?

        • Linda says:

Also both my reversivible candle and road opener ardvin a glass so I really can’t carve anything the reversivible is red on top and it looks either dark purple or black on bottom does this have any effect on what my purpose is? Sorry for all the different post with questions its my first time doin this alone.

          • magic says:

the general approach to candle magic is one candle per person – however, in the art of magic, intention and will override the rules. so when you do the ritual, use your names for one candle and focus your intent hard, no doubts, remembering it is the energy and all things are possible. if someone does not believe, the energy will still go to them and when they ask for help or open up to is, the magic is downloaded. please ask all the questions you want because your questions will be helping others. i had this exact question for myself years ago and i experimented and discovered you have to use your mind with focused intent and work with what you have. ask all the questions you want to; i so enjoy your comments. thank you very much. lotsa love and blessings.

          • magic says:

if you are working with glass, you can write the person’s name on a piece of parchment paper. i like to use pencil because pencil has graphite in it and that is of the earth, making the magic more potent. place the parchment next to the glass or under it. remember, intention is what matters, focused intention, so with glass encased candles, there is no carving; simply write the person’s name on parchment and put it next to or under the glass encased candle. thank you again, for your excellent questions.

  16. Linda says:

What do I do with the reversivible candle once done? Is there anything special that has to be done?

    • magic says:

proper disposal of the remains is just as important as the ritual. in hoodoo tradition, the remains are taken to a crossroads – the purpose of this is the traffic will disperse the energy, making it difficult for any magician to track your work; a method i prefer is to take the remains to a stream that leads to the ocean, deposit the remains in the stream and pay the undine (water spirits) coins to take the remains to the ocean for the amakuas to transmute to something useful. some people like to bury the remains, giving it to the earth – i do not recommend this method because you never know when these remains will be unearthed by construction or flood or other methods. the main thing is you want the remains out of your home or environment, so i recommend the steam, but make sure you do the proper google search on the stream and be certain it goes to an ocean; otherwise, deposit in the crossroads. if the candle is glass encased, depositing it can be tricky, in this event, i take it to a graveyard and leave it in a cross path there and i pay the spirits coins to look after it and i do not look back. there are other ways to dispose of the remains, but these are the most common. this is a very important topic. thanks for bringing it up. blessings of everything good.

2 – I want to remove all spell and negative and hex from my self and my family by 7 day candle so please tell me i must light candle only for my self or i can light and pray for my self and my family ?
is it have effect if i light and pray to remove all spell , hex and negative energy from my family or i must to light and pray only for my self ?

3 – for good luck and mony and attraction or remove negative energy i must use 7 day candle or I can use chime candle that can only light for 1 or 3 hours ?

I hope that you guide me clearly
    thank you

    • magic says:

these are all very good questions. 1. i like luckymojo for oils – these are authentic. you can also make your own oil, see the video on how to bless oil. but if you make your own holy oil, never use it in cooking, it is for magic only. you can add herbs and roots and crystals to your oil as well, remember to cleanse all before making and to bless the oil before using. 2. you can light the candle for your entire family. some say only one candle per person or only one candle to clean up one mess or trick. i think intention is what matters, so i would use the 7 day candle for your family and since you are part of the family, you would be included in the prayer. 3. this is a very good question. the size of the candle does not matter, as long as you put your energy into the ceremony and flame. chime candles are wonderful because they burn in a short amount of time. i hope this answers your questions. please feel free to ask more questions if you need any help. blessings of everything good, marianne

because i want to order but don’t know which type is better
    thank you

    • magic says:

hello! i looked at both links and you raise such a valuable point! the real magic is in you – your intention, your focus, your desire, your power! the magic is in you! work within your budget because that gives you strength. you are the one who makes it powerful. each candle is only as powerful as you make it. for example, someone could get an expensive candle with a graphic and just light it without any intention whatsoever and the candle will do nothing; but if someone lights a small chime candle with great focus, concentration, desire, and conjuring, that little chime candle will have more magic than the biggest screened glass encased candle. so much of this is personal preference, too. if you have the extra money and you want the fancy candle, by all means get it and enjoy your magic. in a word, it only matters if you make it matter. a lot of your magic is in your belief, too. since you are the magician wielding the magic, it is you who is directing the candle, so which ever you select will be the most potent. you can write your intention on parchment and put it under the candle as well. one is not more powerful than the other; however, by law of quantum physics, we change what we perceive, therefore, if you perceive it as more powerful, than it is because your thought gets impressed upon the candle. so you have to decide based upon your faith in your ability and magic. personally, i use a lot of small candles because i can get the job done quickly. sometimes i go for a screened candle, but only when i want that added visual. and sometimes i think by having someone else put a visual on my candle might be distracting – all depending upon the magic i want to work. you must be drawn to the correct candle. i always recommend working within your budget…some of the most incredible magic i have seen has been with sticks and stones – all free. remember – just because something costs more, does not make it more powerful. you make it powerful! i hope this helps. thank you so much for raising this concern – i think a lot of people wonder about this. many blessings of everything good, marianne

  19. Kristen says:

    Hi Marianne,
I have a red/black double action candle as there has been serious negativity around a love relationship. I’m not sure of the source but as a result the significant other needs time/space away. I believe she is undergoing some inner turmoil related to whatever/whomever is the source of the negativity. Is there a phase of the moon to start this on? And since it’s a 9″ candle and there is no way to let it all burn at once, what do I do with it? Do I keep using it each day until a certain phase of the moon? Once finally burned down do I dispose of it in moving water? Sea salt? What is meant by a crossroad? I’m imagining digging up concrete at a busy intersection! Please help. Thank you.

    • magic says:

hello! i recommend doing magic during the dark moon – which begins at sundown 3 days prior to the new moon and lasts until the new moon; however, you can do magic during any phase of the moon and ask for it to be completed by the next new moon. it is best to work with the moon, but i like to get the magic done and ask for the completion by the next new moon and i state that date when i make the prayer. you can suspend the candle anytime you like – safety first. never blow it out as that scatters the magic. get a candle snuffer or spoon or you can pinch it with your fingers. if it is glass encased, i put a plate over it and the lack of oxygen naturally extinguishes the flame. i state, “please suspend the flame but not the prayer” then i put it out and when i relight it, i ask for the prayer to continue. when it is burned, take the remains to either a crossroads or stream that empties into the ocean. the purpose of putting the remains in the crossroads is because there is traffic and your magic will be difficult to track or trace due to all the energy. you would simply drop it at the crossroads and you keep going. you do not have to add sea salt unless the remains include sea salt. i giggled about digging up concrete because that would be a tough project to complete and you do not want to get caught. so if you are dropping the remains in a crossroads, you have to do this discretely and fast – maybe at night. the last thing you want is some busy-body picking up your remains and calling you a litter bug. so it requires tact and secrecy. you don’t want random eyes checking out your remains. if you throw the remains into the stream that leads to the ocean, summon the undine (water spirits) and ask them to take the remains to the ocean and give the remains to the amakuas to transmute it to something for the higher good of all. and always pay the undines a few coins; they like dimes. i hope this information is helpful and these are all excellent questions. blessings of goodness, marianne

    Hi Marianne,
I’m sorry but forgot to ask (I have so many questions) what kind of prayer would I say since I am not certain of the source of all the negativity? And what would I inscribe on both ends of the candle? Since I don’t believe that the significant other (although we’re not technically together right now) is the true source of it but instead inflicted with turmoil does hers and my name go on the red part? Thank you again.

hello! when i do not know the source of evil, i inscribe “the evil one” or “the evil ones” (if there is more than one) or “the enemy” or “the source of negativity”. inscribe this in mirror writing, which means if you held it up to the mirror, you could read it – in other words, backwards. the black part of the candle burns first and your enemy’s name is inscribed backwards so the evil is sent back to them. the colored part of the candle has your name inscribed as it is normally written so you are reclaiming what was taken, tricked or cursed. so the enemy’s name goes on the black part in mirror writing, backwards, and your name goes on the red part as you normally write it. the black part of the candle gets burned first, so the evil gets burned by the flame and sent back and you reclaim what was yours as the colored part of the candle burns. blessings of goodness

Marianne, thank you so much for responding to my queries and I will be cautious at the crossroads! I don’t believe the river here goes all the way to the ocean :/
Do you do work on behalf of others? If so, how do I contact you? Thank you so very much again. Blessed be!

it is always a pleasure, Kristen, answering questions! if you want to contact me, on the top of the home screen, hover over “About Marianne” and click on the drop down where it says “contact”. i usually check my emails weekly. yes, you always must be careful at the crossroads! many blessings, marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Marianne,
Thank you. It seems I will have to leave the wax at the crossroads as the local river is about 3 1/2 hours away from the ocean. I assume literally just drop it in the intersection and so then it is okay that cars will likely run over it? And is it typical to always drop wax at a crossroads or river near an ocean? Are there any other places? Lastly, and I am so sorry to ask so many questions… I noticed on your video demonstration that you rub the oils starting at the center and out to the wick. I happened to have watched a video prior to yours and she rubbed the oils starting from the wick of each the black and red to the center line. Now I’m really confused as to which way is considered the appropriate way. Thank you so much. Blessed be!

          • magic says:

hi Kristen, it is fine if the cars run over it, actually it is a good thing and exactly what you want to have happen….the busier, the more it scatters everything so it gets dispersed – harder to track and the energy is sent out for manifestation of your good work! there are other places to drop wax, depending upon the spell, but the crossroads and ocean are generic places that apply to almost all rituals. regarding the blessing of a candle with oil – if you think of how energy travels, it goes from the base to the wick, so if the wick is blessed first, then the middle or base, it would make sense the wick end would need to be cleared again….if you understand how energy travels, then it will make sense – i recommend always asking why because if we understand, then we can pretty much figure things out. the energy goes from base to tip, so bless bottom half first, then top half is they way i always do this. there are many ways, so maybe what you read had a different application; i think blessing the bottom half first and then the top half is congruent with how energy travels. oh i just love your questions! these are all valid and necessary to understand. thank you so much for all of your participation! many blessings to you

I am so sorry…I just finished a 14 day spell that required throwing the spent wax into a moving river which I did. With 95% certainty I believe that I forgot to release the energy on the 14th night (night of full moon). Does this mean I should start the entire process over or will Goddess Aphrodite be okay with it? I will start over if you think it’s necessary. Ugh. Thank you very much. I hope you had a blessed thanksgiving.

    • magic says:

it is so easy to forget a step when doing magic, especially magic that takes a while to complete, such as a 14 day spell! you do not have to do this over – there a few ways around this. i recommend always applying the sacred insurance policy, as outlined in the video http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/02/sacred-insurance-policy/ . i apply that before i close, but since you already closed your ceremony, here’s what to do. open sacred space and invoke all the magic, including Goddess Aphrodite, and ask to roll back time to the end of the ritual. then release the energy and complete whatever step you forgot. then ask for it to be inserted into your original magic and that space and time be adjusted accordingly. then thank them, employ the sacred insurance policy by asking, then close. everything will be just fine as if you didn’t forget anything. it happens to everybody! so this is a good technique….and it works. lotsa love and blessings.

    hello
i want to use green chime candle for money attraction , but there are many green color
like dark green or light green or ………
please tell me which green color is best for money drawing and prayer and dressing oil
    thank you

    • magic says:

hello, hello! using a green chime candle, no matter what the shade, is a great money drawing candle. if the candle is light green, it is green mixed with light, so that works as an added blessing. if the color green is dark, it has a grounding energy, so that helps with manifestation. no matter what the shade, green brings money. personally, i like to use basil oil to dress a candle for money drawing. basil has protective properties, especially from jealousy, so it protects your money as you bring it to you! also, think the following, “what would it be like if i were rich…” and imagine all the experiences you would have. think that any time you feel anything but deserving and abundant. many blessings, marianne

Marianne, you are so gracious to answer questions from so many of us. When using the red/black double action candle you say to begin 3 days prior to a new moon. Am I correct presuming I burn all the black in 3 days? Am I supposed to burn the red in the following 4 days? Is this a 7 day candle?
When using a red/black double action candle am I supposed to open and close a circle? If so, since I cannot leave the candle burning all of the time but will have to snuff it out each day, is it necessary to open and close a circle each time? In other words, open the circle before relighting and closing the circle after snuffing out each time? Thank you. Blessed be. Kristen

        • magic says:

hi Kristen! it makes the magic more potent to work with the moon cycles. the dark moon begins at sunset, 3 days prior to the new moon, and lasts until the new moon. this is a time of banishing. as the moon wanes or gets smaller, that is the time to make things smaller – banish, diminish, etc.; as the moon waxes or gets larger, that is the time of manifestation, the big manifestation is on the full moon. therefore, with a double action candle, i like to accomplish the entire candle in 3 days, if possible. however, for most of us, we cannot monitor a candle burning all that time; therefore, we light the candle and when we cannot tend to it, we snuff it out and say, “please suspend the flame but not the prayer/ritual/ceremony”. if you are banishing, it is good to begin during the waning moon; however, if i really need to do magic this red hot minute, i do it, regardless of the moon phase and i request the ceremony be inserted into the next dark moon (the 3 days before the new moon) and be completed by the new moon – as a prayer request. so we do have flexibility by intention and prayer request. i hope that is clear. now this is not flexible – you cast the circle ONCE before lighting and you NO NOT lift the circle until the flame is done. the circle protects your work so it cannot be corrupted by stray astrals or unwanted influences. i hope this is clear and makes sense – if not, please feel free to ask again until it is understood. it is my absolute pleasure to answer your questions. have a blessed day filled with everything wonderful! Marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Marianne,
I’m sorry a bit confused. First, I plan to wait till Dec 8th at sunset as I agree that moon phases are particularly important. Ultimately, if we’re meant to be together, waiting a few more days isn’t a problem.

Second, and the confusion part…so I burn the ENTIRE candle in those three days prior to the new moon?

Third, due to safety concerns, it will be hard to burn a 30 hr candle in those 3 days. I will likely have to snuff it out each day after only a couple of hours of burn time each time.

So, when you say not to close the circle until the flame is done, do you mean despite the fact that I will have to snuff it out each day, I don’t close the circle every time I snuff it out?

In other words, open the circle just prior to the first lighting and only that one time? Then when I have to leave the sacred space, I don’t close the circle since I will return the following days to relight? Instead, I only close the circle once the candle has burned all the way down?

If that is correct and I don’t close the circle, does that mean I have to create an opening in the circle to leave the sacred space each day? And if so, how does that work?

I’ve read that you always enter the circle from the east and leave from the west? When do you speak to the elements? At the opening of the circle or the closing? Which direction will I do that given it’s a double action candle?

            Thank you!!!! Blessed be.
I want to make sure I get this correct?

          • magic says:

hello – you demonstrate so well that 99% of magic is the planning and understanding of the ceremony and 1% is the impeccable execution of the ceremony because you are so well prepared. i know this is a bit confusing, so let’s try to clear up this information. when casting a circle of light around the candle, the circle remains until the candle is completely burned down or until the ceremony is finished (in some ceremonies, the candle is not burned completely). so for your ritual, you will cast the circle of light around your candle or alter only. this circle of light protects your work, so you don’t lift the circle until your work is completed. that’s right, dispite the fact that you will have to snuff out the candle each day, you do not close the circle until the candle is finished. this protects your candle. that’s right, open the circle once, just prior to the first lighting and only that one time. that’s right, you only close the circle when your ritual and flame are complete.

i think in this situation, we can layer sacred space. you would first invoke to whom ever you pray – your angels, the saints, Buddha, Jesus, Moses, Quin Yin, your spirit guides – who ever you pray to. Ask them to cast protective sacred space around your work. just ask for it. Then draw your circle around your alter or flame – do not include yourself in this circle, just the tools in your ritual, one circle for your alter or if you are only working with a candle, just a circle around the candle. in the northern hemisphere of the earth, you draw the circle of light counter-clockwise – in the southern hemisphere, you draw it clockwise. this is congruent with the old school dowsing teachings so no portals are opened up. if you are invoking the elements in your magic, in the northern hemisphere, you begin with the north and in the southern hemisphere you begin with the south. you always follow the rules – north is counter-clockwise and south is clockwise. so if you are in the north, you invoke the direction of the north, then the west, the south and the east. in the south, you begin with the south and then invoke the east, north and west. you can then invoke the directions of below and above then within.

the main thing – invoke sacred space by calling upon an unseen force for help. then cast your circle. light your candle. snuff out candle when you need to and say a prayer, “please suspend the flame but not the prayer”. then you close the sacred space you verbally requested, but you leave the circle of light as is until the candle is completely burned.

so, for your ritual, i will provide an example, using Archangel Michael. Archangel Michael may i please have sacred space and psychic boundaries around my work. thank you. then place your objects on the table or alter. cast a circle around your objects, including the candle. do not include yourself in the circle or you will have to sit with it the entire time without interruptions or any suspensions. light your candle and do your magical work. when it is time to suspend the candle, snuff it out and say, “please suspend the candle but not the prayer” thank you. then ask Archangel Michael to protect and guard your work and ask him to close sacred space. The next day, Ask Archangel Michael to open sacred space. light your candle. then repeat the process until it is done.

to invoke the elements, refer to video http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2013/01/incan-elemental-sacred-space/ and video http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/01/4-directions-and-4-elements/ for more understanding. elemental sacred space is an advanced magic, so i would recommend saving this for the future and keeping your magic simple, unless you are specifically doing elemental magic for a specific reason. it is important to study the elements before engaging them.

there are many different schools of sacred space and circle casting, so mine may be different than the reading you referenced. it sounds as if you are including yourself in the circle, which i would not recommend if you are suspending the flame. best to just cast the circle around the flame or you limit your mobility to the alter. but it does not make the magic you read about wrong, just a different method.

the most important thing to understand and be very clear about is your intention and be very careful when working with circles not to open portals. that’s why the big deal about clockwise/counter-clockwise.

when you dress the double-action candle, face north if you live in the northern hemisphere and south if you live in the southern hemisphere.

you are very wise in making sure your procedure is correct. sometimes i spend months planning a ritual and if i don’t give it this planning, it is just an exercise; which we want our magic to be potent and to work! 🙂

the best thing is to keep is all simple. if you can’t burn the entire candle in the 3 days prior to the new moon, don’t worry, when you finish just ask that the ritual be time rolled to the next dark moon (the 3 day period before the new moon) and completed by the next new moon, and state the date.

we can’t always work within time constraints so we have the flexibility to time roll our work just by asking – that is why i recommend invoking an angel or deity or guide to help you because they perceive beyond time.

i know this is very complex. whenever i do new magic, it can be mind boggling. keep asking questions until it is crystal clear. i invite you to ask all the questions you want. i thoroughly enjoy answering questions and having this discussion. this is actually inspiring me to make a video on this topic.

remember there are many ways to perform a ritual; i like to go with the old school ancient ways of dowsing, the order of the golden dawn, egyptian mystery schools, tarot, kabbalah, and all the old ways; that way it is congruent and can be built upon. so there will be many ways presented, if you learn the old ways, it will always be consistent.

ok, that is a lot of information for now. let me know what isn’t clear and we can carry on with this discussion.

many blessings of love and happiness,
            marianne

Marianne, thank you that is incredibly helpful as I now understand that I can cast a circle only around the candle or altar. Wow, if only I had known that earlier. My jaw dropped when I read that part.
I do have a couple of more questions…Is it necessary to begin the red/black double action candle at sunset? Is it less effective if I began in the morning around 8am? That would allow for the candle to burn for several hours of the day as I will be present. Given that I’m using a red/black for love/romance issues, can I invoke Goddess Venus or Aphrodite or is Archangel Michael (as you used as an example) a better choice to protect the sacred space?
And, do you have any books, etc that teach the old school ancient ways? In a manner that is fairly explanatory to the average individual?
Lastly, I emailed you from the contact link at the top of your page over a week ago. I had a couple of questions and was wondering when I may hear back? Thank you again. Blessed be.

          • magic says:

hello! you made me smile because i remember when i discovered i could cast a circle around just the candle and not the entire room with me in it. it is liberating to learn this piece of magic! if you want to begin the ritual at 8am, that is perfectly fine. we must be flexible with our time and what we can do and safety is always a first; i do not like to leave a candle unattended. we do our best to match the times and phases of the moon, however, time is also an illusion, so we can always bend time, for the asking, when we close the entire ceremony. i like to invoke Archangel Michael when i cast sacred space because he is a defender and he has always helped me well. so if you are doing a love ritual, you can ask AA Michael to hold sacred space for you and invoke Goddess Venus or Aphrodite OR you can just ask Goddess Venus or Aphrodite to hold sacred space for you. what ever deity or angel or being you have a rapport with is who you call upon to hold sacred space with you. Who you call upon for sacred space does not have to be the same person as you invoke during the ritual, but it can be. that is what holds resonance and is right for you. i am currently editing 4 books i have written, so i hope to have these published soon. and yes, the books discuss the fundamentals of magic and old school ways and they are for educational purposes and explain the basics. thanks for reminding me; i have to check my email and i will do that now. i enjoy your questions very much. thank you for this valuable exchange. many blessings of everything good! 23. Kristen says:

    Marianne,
Oh my goodness, the questions just keep popping into my head. This is what happens from all the reading and wanting to learn.
You say to face north when dressing the red/black double action candle. Do I continue to face north when lighting it and saying the prayer? Or since it’s a love prayer do I face south?

I know in this ritual I will take the remaining wax and toss in a crossroad somewhere which is a challenge given all of the cameras at all of the stoplights in this area of the state. However, what if a spell doesn’t require you to burn an entire candle or even if it does, but it doesn’t tell you what to do with the remaining unburnt candle or wax. Then what does one do with it?

Likewise if the spell requires other things to be used? Say for example, you have to write stuff down on paper or use a photo but it doesn’t say what to do with those things when done? Or even burned down incense?

Thank you. And with all of your help I am starting to feel a little more prepared for the upcoming ritual.

    • magic says:

hello! you don’t have to face north when dressing the candle, but you point the candle to the north as you dress it. you can face whatever direction that matches your ritual. i face north because in the northern hemisphere the direction of north is the way home and the generic direction, so you can’t go wrong. the direction of the south is fire, so you are invoking fire, passion, kundalini energy, purging of past, salamander beings….you may want to include a feminine element as well, such as water, since water is feeling – or earth to ground it. regarding the remains of a candle, if you want the energy to be difficult to trace, you put it into the crossroads. if you want the energy to be transmuted, you put the remains into a stream that goes to the ocean. if you want the energy to be done and forgotten, you bury it – but with burying anything, you never know when it will be dug up. some people like to go to a cliff and give it to the wind, but i only do that with ashes. the same would apply to unburned candle/wax if the spell calls for not burning the candle all the way down. it all depends upon the spell or ritual, that is why it is very important to understand why – always ask why and if you don’t know, stop and understand why before proceeding. it should all make sense because you are consciously directing it. the other things used, i like to wrap in parchment and dispose of the same way. you make a very good point, being prepared and taking the time to properly design the ritual is extremely important. i am enjoying these questions and i am sure other people have the same questions and will benefit from our conversation. many blessings of peace to you.

      • Kristen says:

After rereading your reply I realize I am still not completely clear. So 1) if the ritual doesn’t tell you what to do with candle remains you said that you still like to tos on crossroads or river feeding into the ocean? That would be whether candle had burned all the way down or if a lot of it was still remaining?
        2) as for any other items called for in the ritual (e.g., photo or something in writing about that person) you would wrap it in parchment and toss in crossroads? I’d be leery about tossing a photo of another person and/or me where it could be picked up?
        3) if that’s the case is it alright to burn it first an then toss it with candle remains?
Sorry I think too much! Thank you! You can write a book just on all of my questions. Blessed be.

        Kristen

        • magic says:

ah, good questions! 1. the remains are what is left after the ritual is completed. depending upon the ritual, whether the candle burned down completely or if the ritual called for partial burning of the candle, what is left is called the remains. the remains are what gets tossed into the crossroads or river feeding into the ocean. 2. yes, i wrap things in parchment and dispose of them in the crossroads or stream that leads to the ocean – generally i would burn the photograph and the ashes would remain. so burn the photo during the ritual and the ashes will leave no trace to anyone. 3. burn the photo during the ritual – paper smells when it burns, so make sure you have some ventilation, but not too much to cause the candle flame to go out. don’t burn the photo before the ritual, make it part of your ritual. i love your questions! before i do any rituals, i think of such questions, too. this is very important because the ritual must be designed properly before it is executed. the worst thing to have happen is be in the middle of the ritual and forget something. also before i plan a ritual, i write everything down, even the casting of a circle, because it can be easy to forget something. so make a good outline of every little thing you need to do and it will help a lot. then the written instructions can go into your book of shadows (your spiritual notebook) for future reference. thanks so much for all your contribution here; i am certain others will benefit from your excellent questions. many blessings of everything good, Marianne

  24. Kristen says:

So do you have the wick end or the butt end facing north as you dress it?
Can you please explain the difference between throwing it in a crossroads versus a body of water that flows into the ocean? In other words, transmuting? I don’t quite understand the concept of transmuting here. Does it have to be flowing into the ocean? I live about 2 hours from the closest body of water that flows into the ocean.
    Thank you!

    • magic says:

hello! there is a video on how to bless/dress a candle that might be helpful. http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/01/blessing-candles/ this video might clear up your question. when the remains of the ritual are thrown into a crossroads, there is a lot of scattering energy at the crossroads which makes your ritual difficult to track and it gets dispersed, which is one way to get rid of the remains. another way is to throw the remains into a stream that leads to the ocean – the purpose here is to ask the undine spirits (water spirits) to carry the remains to the ocean, where the Amakuas collect the remains and make other things from it. an example is Excalibur, the sword of power. the remains of all the blood spilled from honorable warriors was collected and transmuted (with metal) to form the sword of power, gifted to Merlin by the Lady of the Lake. So, the remains can be used to create other things. always pay the Undine spirits when ever you do that. if you have to travel two hours, that is not convenient, so your best bet is to toss the remains into the crossroads. these are all very good questions because when we know why, we understand the magic even better, which makes it all the more potent. many blessings of goodness to you, Marianne.

  25. Kristen says:

PS Why would you want the energy to be done and forgotten? What is an example of that spell?

    • magic says:

another great question. by law of quantum physics, whenever we observe (or think of) something, we change it. so if we keep checking on our magic or look for results after we complete the ritual, we change it – thoughts such as – “did it work?” “are there results yet” and the like, keep the ritual alive and open and actually change the energy, so when the spell is done, it is forgotten so it may return back to you according to your intention. such a good question!

      • Kristen says:

        Marianne
So then regardless of whether we toss into a crossroad or river or bury the remains we are not supposed to wonder if the spell is working? To ask if it is working is a bad thing?

        • magic says:

exactly! every time we think or look at a thing or concept, we change it! we are observers and the law of quantum physics says by observation, we change the “reality”. so it is best to forget the magic once we complete it; get busy doing something else….to ask if it is working is checking and it layers doubt onto it…everyone always wonders, “did the magic work?”. magic takes time, AND it works! just do the ceremony or prayer and let it go and get busy with something else….

  26. Kristen says:

    Marianne,
okay tomorrow is the day to begin the double action candle. I was thinking that I want to surround the candle with sand to help keep it upright since I don’t have a big enough candle holder. I will melt some wax to set it on first but wanted some added protection.

    1) If I do use sand, I’m imagining that the wax will melt onto it. I’m thinking that along with the melted wax and sea salt that the sand will also get tossed in the crossroads?

    2) And, if I am able to burn most of it in the three days, is it okay if it burns down all the way prior to the actual midnight hour on Thurs/Friday when the new moon starts? Say for example, is it okay if it happened to burn all the way down by 6pm on Thurs?

    3) And can I wait till later that evening say around 10pm when there isn’t as much traffic out to toss in the crossroads?
This is of course only if it melts all the way down in those 3 days of waning moon.

Thank you as always. Blessed be.
    Kristen

    • magic says:

hello Kristen, Surrounding the candle with sand is an excellent idea! safety first!! you certainly are understanding the concept very well! yes, the sand would also get tossed into the crossroads. the important thing is you begin the ritual before the new moon; if it does not complete, when it is done and before you toss everything into the crossroads, ask that the entire ritual be inserted into the dark moon time. so, yes it is ok. we generally like it to be done before the new moon, but everything is still valid. yes, it makes sense to wait until later that evening to toss the remains in the crossroads. it is always my pleasure to answer questions! many blessings, Marianne

  27. Kristen says:

    Marianne,
I think I’m going to be ill. After weeks of planning the double red/black action candle and even writing instructions down, I forgot to cast a circle when opening/starting the ritual.

I did, however, start by applying the sacred insurance policy. That was the very first thing I did. After reading about Archangel Michael and learning more about him, he was my choice. After applying the sacred insurance policy I then went through the steps of cutting off the red tip end and making a tip at the black end, inscribing in mirror writing on black part and my name in regular normal writing on red part and then the oils, etc. I lit the candle and when needing to snuff it out I asked that only the flame be suspended, etc.

While trying to sleep I realized I had never cast the circle after applying the sacred insurance policy. So on the second day prior to relighting the candle, I cast the circle and asked that it be rolled back to the beginning of the ritual which was Tues Dec 8 at sunset. Then proceeded to relight it.

The flame has burned out as of this morning. I plan to take it along with sea salt and sand to a crossroads this evening when I’m not under the watch of tons of traffic.

My concern of course is having forgotten to cast a circle when it all started on the 8th. Needless to say, I am so upset about this. The intentions of using this particular candle were well meaninged, strong and such. But now I’m worried sick that it’s messed up and I’ll now have to wait another month to start all over.

Lastly, when the candle was almost burned down, the wick fell into the pool of wax and the flame went out. I was concerned that the candle still had about 1/3″ left to fully burn out. So I moved the wick out of the puddle of wax and relit it. It then burned all the way down. Again, did I screw this up?

    I’m just sick about it.

    Thank you. Blessed be.
    Kristen

    • magic says:

hi Kristen, you did the absolute correct thing and your ritual is AOK! the time roll corrected the casting of the circle and the sacred insurance policy corrects mistakes and human error! so you are fine! well done! it is also ok if the wick fell into a pool of wax – you probably did not need to relight it, but it is fine that you did so. in the art of interpreting the candle ceremony and wax, the fact that the wick fell might mean there could be some emotions to process or perhaps a little speed bump with the outcome, but this is unrelated to your execution of it, just an interpretation of the outcome – the art of reading the remains of a candle is often called pyromancy. please do not be sick about this, that is why we have the sacred insurance policy. you did excellently well! so mote it be! lotsa love to you! Marianne

        Hi Marianne
I feel somewhat relieved. I know that all the preparation and planning and intent could not have been any stronger. But as a bit of a worri wort I’m going to be thinking about the speed bump comment due to the wick falling into a puddle of wax. There was a lousy 1/3″ of candle left and I just was at a loss as what to do hence the decision to relight it. Should I be concerned about this speed bump you allude to?
Thank you very much. Blessed be.

hi Kristen, when a candle burns, the remains can be read. no matter how excellently the magic was executed, the outcome will be revealed in the reading of the remains. the speed bump thing has absolutely nothing to do with the execution of this magic. do not be concerned about this speed bump; all it means is there might be a delay, but it will be overcome. even if you repeated the ritual, the remains would tell you the exact same thing….it might be indicated in a different way, but this means the magic worked and there will be something that could happen to make you doubt it, but with will and determination, your magic will be realized. it is like reading tea leaves – the way a candle burns will tell you about the energy that is shifting; it gives you clues and insight into it. nothing you did caused this to happen – it happened to reveal something to you….i hope that clears things up. i think it is telling you not to get discouraged if the outcome seems like it won’t manifest…the spark will be re-lit. it is interesting to interpret. hope that clears it up. don’t think on it because everything went exactly as it was supposed to….many blessings to you. you did very well.

    • magic says:

hi Kristen, i just had to say this one more thing – after i wrote my response, i thought, i can’t tell you how many times i have done a ritual and forgot to do something or got interrupted….i remember once having to carve candles over and over because i kept making mistakes….carving a candle requires it be done right, but human error happens all the time and we all make mistakes…it is so easy to forget to cast a circle….i like to put a thick layer of salt around each candle as well as the entire ritual, too…i use coarse sea salt…as you do more of these rituals, it all becomes second nature, but that sacred insurance policy gives us a lot of wiggle room. actually time rolling is an advanced piece of magic; the present is created by the future, from a quantum perspective, so i have to congratulate you for employing such an advanced technique! you did really very well! lotsa love to you! celebrate your success! many blessings!

for example i want to buy black tourmaline , black obsidian , selenite , citrine and green aventurine but i need real good seller hope that you introduce good seller
and about oil please tell me good seller
    i find some seller like
    http://www.artoftheroot.com
    and
    http://www.luckymojo.com
did you use or know about artoftheroot.com product or which brand do you use it ?
    thank you

    • magic says:

hello, and thank you very much for your most welcomed comment! both of the web sites you provided are root magic web sites. i am not familiar with artoftheroot, and my first impression is they are using authentic oils and the site must have at least one, if not more, authentic rootworkers. rootworkers are very skilled professional spiritual people who have a deep knowledge of roots, conjuring and from what i can tell from artoftheroot, elemental magic is also added, to make a very potent oil. i have purchased and worked with luckymojo and i can highly recommend them. luckymojo is an excellent source for root magic and information and luckymojo sells authentic stuff. i do not have experience with artoftheroot to provide you with a comparison; but their presentation has a good intuitive feel. i have done business with luckymojo successfully for years and find everyone there to be fabulous.

crystals are a different matter. each stone is unique and you have to be drawn to the stone; it is often said the crystal picks its keeper. you are wanting to purchase some very strong protective stones. i know a lot of crystal and gem vendors, locally and internationally – it would depend upon how much you want to spend and the size of stone you want. certainly some are better quality than others and there are those who make false claims about the gems. you can’t go wrong going to a gem show; most of the vendors at gem shows are selling authentic crystals for inexpensive prices. another good source is ebay and etsy – do a search for the gem you want and check out the vendor’s feedback. if the vendor sells crystals exclusively, and they have a 99.9% or better feedback, then they are pretty much a safe bet. usually you will develop a rapport with a particular vendor and find yourself buying almost exclusively from that vendor – sometimes, you will ask the vendor to keep an eye out for something special you are wanting to purchase. remember when you get a crystal, you have to cleanse it in sea salt and rosemary. here is a video to show you about this. http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/01/cleanse-crystal-seasalt-rosemary/

if you find a crystal you are interested in, you can email me from the “contact marianne” prompt and send me a picture of it and the source. i can give you my opinion about it. buying a crystal is such a personal thing and your crystal will call to you, even before you find it. try the gem shows or ebay and feel free to send me any links and i will give you my opinion about it. you don’t have to spend a lot of money for a good crystal and size does not make it more powerful, either. selenite chards can be purchased from wand makers as left over pieces for very inexpensive. the crystal does not have to be gemmy in quality, either – the metaphysical properties still apply.

thank you so much from your comment and excellent questions. i look forward to more from you!! many blessings of everything good, Marianne

  29. Kristen says:

    Hi Marianne,
I hope you have had a happy, safe and blessed holiday season thus far. I am wondering if it is okay to conduct two double action candles at the same time? May I burn both a green/black for money help and a white/black for protection at the same time?

And, is it correct that they are both started 3 days prior to the new moon?

If it is okay to burn both at the same time, is there anything I should know about it that is perhaps different than doing just one?

And, if it is okay to burn both at the same time is it okay to throw both out at the same crossroad or would I want to find two separate crossroads?

Is it ever okay to throw out candle/ritual remains at a crossroad you’ve used before? Where I live, for instance, the number of crossroads that aren’t monitored by cameras at the stoplights is very limited. It is a spy state around here!

    Thank you as always,
    Kristen

    • magic says:

hello Kristen! as always you have excellent questions. it is perfectly fine to do multiple ceremonies simultaneously. just be careful that you do not dilute the magic by doing too many and making yourself tired. so drink a lot of water and get rest afterwards. you can use the same crossroads; however, i would not wrap the remains in 1 package, if you wrap the remains….each ceremony should be separately disposed of – but if the contents are all lose, you can put in the same crossroads at the same time. yes, you are right, you have to be careful when disposing in the crossroads! i am having a lovely holiday season, thanks and i wish the same to you as well!!! many blessings of everything good, Marianne

  30. Kristen says:

Thank you Marianne. Also, I should begin both double action candles three days before the new moon?
This next question deals with the actual date of the new moon. Depending on what website one looks at, one says the next new moon is on January 9th when it is 29 days of age. But it also shows the new moon on January 10th when it is 0 (zero) days. Which should one go by? This is very confusing.
Thank you. I look forward to your response to these questions. Blessed be!

    • magic says:

hello!! it can be very confusing to determine when the new moon is because certain calendars correspond to various time zones. if the new moon happens at 1:00 eastern standard time USA, that would make the new moon happen 10:00pm the day before if Pacific standard time, USA. the very best thing to do is to get an astrological calendar that will give you the exact time; however you have to know how the astrological calendar is oriented – that is, what time zone does the calendar represent. if you really want to make absolutely certain, google the moon phases and you will find universal time with tables of the moon cycle and other tables to convert that universal time to your time. Llewellyn makes an astrological calendar according to eastern standard time. this will show all the retrogrades and planetary bodies. i like to use this as a quick reference. I understand this can be confusing, and i have seen this conflict in calendars, too – if the calendar is oriented to a different time zone than your own, best to find the precise time of the moon phases and go with that.

beginning the double action ceremony three days before the new moon is a great idea; however, if you can’t wait that long, you can start it at any time and when you conclude and before you lift the circle, ask, “that the magic begin during the dark moon and be completed by the new moon of ” that is one way to time roll the energy and it works just as well.

i know it is confusing, but once you get beyond the learning curve of it, it will come naturally.

      lotsa blessings, Marianne

  31. Kristen says:

    Hi Marianne,
I had asked a couple of follow-up questions to be sure I was clear but don’t see them posted here.
Anyway, the first question was whether it’s okay to use a crossroad that I’ve used previously for another ritual?
Second, I assume to start it 3 days prior to new moon. This part is confusing. Some calendars say this coming Saturday (1/9) is the new moon but it says it’s Day 29. Another calendar says Sunday 1/10 is the new moon (Day 1). Which day does one go by according to U.S. eastern time?
And third, what does one write (backwards) on the black part for the green/black double action candle? I’m just not sure other than I really need to banish my debt and have a serious positive financial turn-around starting asap.

    Thank you & Blessed be,
    Kristen

    • magic says:

Hi Kristen! I got your questions and will answer these now. Yes, it is ok to use a crossroad you have used previously for another ritual. the purpose of the crossroad is to scatter any ties to you so no one can track you and for you to let go of it, so the results can come back or manifest according to your intention.

The second question is so good because i think everyone has run into this. Each calendar is oriented to a specific time zone. if the new moon is happening around midnight, it can be different dates, depending upon your time zone. the trick is to determine to which time zone your calendar is oriented. you can google new moon chart for the year and find the universal time of the new moon. there will be instructions there to convert the universal time to your time zone. this will give you an accurate read of when exactly the new moon is happening according to your time zone. you can compare that to your calendar and this will tell you how your calendar is oriented. this should help a lot. i know it can be confusing, but once you get the hang of it, it will seem natural.

you would write backwards, mirror writing, all the things you want to banish or the negative things you want to transmute. “debt” would be a very good thing to write. “lack” might be another. write the blockages you have with money for the green candle and write those in mirror writing. you understand this very well and in the positive side, in regular writing, you could write words like, “abundance” “wealth” “surplus” and other words like that. be very creative.

i hope this is helpful. thank you so much for your patience in my response. it is always a pleasure hearing from you. you certainly are becoming more knowledgeable with this process.

Many blessings of success and prosperity,
      Marianne

  32. Kristen says:

    Marianne,
I’m sorry, but I’m not seeing the post I just submitted so I’m not sure if it’s getting through but I had some follow-up questions.

    1) When blessing green/black what would one say?

    2) When writing backwards on the black part, what are some things one might write? I really need a big positive change financially beginning asap.

    3) I’m confused about moon phase calendar. For example, I assume start any double action candle 3 days prior to the new moon. Some calendars say day 1 of the upcoming new moon is this Sunday 1/10 while others say it is Saturday 1/9 but that it is day 29. As you know, I live in the eastern US time zone. This is confusing. Which day do I go by?

    4) Since I was thinking that it was Sunday, I only just put the double action candle in sea salt starting today. But if the new moon is actually Saturday, I’d have to start it on Wedn and the cleansing process would then only have been 2 days. I’m hoping I can consider Sunday as the new moon but will do as you suggest.

Is it okay to rinse a candle (not wick) in sea salted & rosemary water three times instead of putting it in a paper bag for 3 days?

Last, while you answered about putting the remains of two double action candles in the same crossroad, is it okay to put remains in a crossroad that I’ve used before? Does it always have to be a brand new crossroad? I would quickly run out of crossroads where I can be discrete if the latter is the case.
    Thank you, Blessed Be.
    Kristen

    • magic says:

      Hi Kristen!
i think the posts are up now – it took me a bit of time to get to respond to everyone’s questions. your questions are always valuable and i encourage you to please continue asking because these are questions other people might have, too.

      1. when blessing the green and black candle, i usually say, “i bless the in the name of what is holy, and right and true and good, so mote it be.” something like that is appropriate. you can also call upon deities, angles or God/Goddess as well.

      2. when writing backwards, which is also called mirror writing, you would write the names of energies you no longer want – for a green and black candle, things such as: lack, debt, bad luck, misfortune, things you want to banish or have no more. for the green part, you might want to write words to reflect the energy you want to draw or bring to you, such as: prosperity, abundance, fortune, good luck, and words like that.

      3. this is a very confusing subject for many people. the problem is to determine how your calendar is oriented. some calendars are eastern standard time, pacific standard time, or times for other countries. google “moon phases chart 2016” and you will most likely get a web site that has what is called universal or standard time with charts to convert these time to your time zone. once you get the hang of this, it is easy to do. you are making remarkable progress as you learn all of these details. but this is such a valid point and even the most advanced students bring up this question at one time or another.

      4. sometimes we just do not have enough time to prepare our tools. when this happens to me and i need to do the magic yesterday, i do not skip the cleansing of the tools. give it the full 3 days. then i begin the ritual immediately, no matter what phase the moon is. when the ritual is complete and before i lift the circle, i ask for the magic to be begin during the dark moon of the next new moon and i name the date of the next new moon. sometimes we just can’t do the magic at the required time, but we can certainly time roll the magic.

i think in the time of an emergency you could rinse the candle in sea salt and rosemary three times, but in emergency only….i usually have a bunch of candles on hand – i get the small chime candles and have plenty cleansed for when i need them. if you can, plan ahead, but your creative idea to rinse the candle is very good…i would include the wick and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. that should do in a pinch. sometimes we have to be creative when the situation calls for it.

yes, you can use the same crossroads repetitively. the idea is to scatter the energy so you can’t be tracked, traced and for the purposes of you letting go so the universe can deliver the results. the same crossroads works fine. i think we would all run out of crossroads and sometimes it is hard to find crossroads that are appropriate, so you can use the same one all you want.

many blessings to you! may 2016 bring you abundance, health, prosperity, joy and laughter!
      Marianne

      • Kristen says:

        Hi Marianne,
Sorry about the multiple posts regarding moon phases based on where one lives. Thank you. That cleared it up. And as luck would have it, I just bought a moon calendar that is in EST. It doesn’t give the exact time of the new moon but it gives the day. Hopefully that is good enough.

Okay, so because I want to fully grasp these ideas, is a ritual/spell (i.e., green/black double action) more effective if it is done on the actual day(s) versus time rolling? Should I just wait until the next new moon?

I know you’ve said that we should start a double action 3 days prior to the new moon. If using a 30 hour 9″ double action and it is possible to burn it all at one time, in other words, no interruptions and not having to suspend the flame, then the candle should burn all the way down about 1 1/2 days into it (that would be about 30 hours straight). Is that okay?

To be clear and to try and understand this, it is not required to burn the green part at all during the new moon? If it is required, does one have to wait until evening of the new moon? For example, say the new moon starts on Saturday 1/9 at 8:00pm, then would the green part have to wait to burn then or is this not necessary? As it should be burned down prior to the start of the new moon?

And, must the ritual start exactly 3 days prior to the new moon (without time rolling) or could it be 1 or 2 days prior to the new moon? In other words, what is the reasoning behind the 3 days?

And, when cleansing, to completely submerge a 9″ double action in sea salt would require A LOT of salt. Is is necessary that the candle be completely buried in salt? With chime candles that is easy but the 9″ is a big big candle.

Thank you as always, Blessed Be,
        Kristen

        • magic says:

          hi Kristen,

great you found a calendar in EST! perfect!

The very best and formal way to do the double action candle is to wait for the dark moon which is sunset 3 days prior to the new moon. let the black part of the candle burn during the dark moon, which is banishing time. technically, the green part should be burned when the moon is new crescent, which is the beginning of the waxing phase. but this timing is so unreasonable for most people. i like to respect the moon phases and all of magic and do the long version or most appropriate ritual regarding timing whenever possible. the rule of thumb is to begin the double action candle during the dark moon period.

time rolling is what is done when we need to do magic right away and will not have time or opportunity during the next dark moon. most would agree, abide by the moon phases, but if you can’t do that, do the ritual.

it might help to understand the moon with regard to timing of rituals. the first crescent is the new moon. the moon waxes until it is full. as the moon grows, this is a drawing time, you do magic that you want to grow. the full moon is the manifestation and the culmination of the waxing energy. the full moon period is 1 day before, the day of, and one day after the full moon – these three days are manifestation energies. as the moon becomes smaller (the illuminated side will always be on the left side when the moon wanes), which is the waning period, this is a time of letting go or banishing. right before the new moon – sunset 3 days before the new moon, is called the dark or black moon. fishermen on the seas always referred to these nights as dark moon nights. this period, just before the first crescent is the dark moon and the most intense banishing time. if you understand as the moon grows, the magic grows and as the moon wanes, the energy wanes. the ebb and flow, the rhythm.

when it comes to magic, there are all these rules about the moon. if you can do the ritual in sync with the moon, that is the best time and recommended; however, if you can’t, we have these other options.

you do not need to bury the candle in salt, you can toss some salt in the bag or box with it. that would be fine.

you don’t have to start the dark moon ritual right at sunset 3 days before the new moon…once the dark moon period begins, anytime during the dark moon is absolutely fine to begin. you don’t have to wait for the new moon to start before lighting the green part as that would be almost impossible to time – candles have a mind and energy of their own once the ritual begins. so light it and let the magic work.

i hope this clears this up. i know i asked all these questions when i was learning, so your questions are very appropriate. it takes a bit of learning to understand how these energies work. the most important thing to remember is your intention. the time rolling is only an option for when we can’t do the magic during the specific moon phase.

          many blessings to you,
          marianne

hello! this is a fabulous question! we work with what we have and white candles are the magical substitute for rituals when we do not have the color candle we want. white is the absence of color and black is every color. typically black is used for banishing and i keep it only for banishing or transmuting. white may be substituted for any color. yes, you may bless a candle with oil for anything; however, some oils are intended for specific purposes. if you want to make your own multipurpose oil, see underworldclassroom’s video on how to make holy oil: http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/01/bless-oil/ and keep this on hand for magical purposes. this brand of chime candles is fine to use. thank you for the link. remember when you receive your candles to put them into a bag with a bit of sea salt and rosemary to clear their energy. let them sit in the bag for 3 days and nights. then they are ready to be blessed (also called dressed) with oil and lit. many blessings to you and thank you for your most welcomed comment. 🙂 marianne

  35. Kristen says:

HI Marianne! I would like to do a double action for health issues. Can I use a white/black double action?

Previously you had mentioned about putting sea salt widdershins around a double action candle. I need some clarity here.
    1) When doing a double action or banishing spell, do you cast the circle widdershins or deosil?
    2) When closing the circle and sacred space after a double action or banishing spell do you close it widdershins or deosil?

I know you mentioned something about living in the northern vs southern hemisphere. As you know, I live in the northern hemisphere. Does that mean I always open and close any kind of spell widdershins? Or does it depend on the type of spell? For example, if it’s a spell attempting to draw something into my life or for better communication do you cast it widdershins or deosil? And how do you close it?

I read somewhere that when closing a circle after the spell is completed that you don’t “close” it, but you say that the circle is now open but unbroken.

    I am confused again.

    Thank you, blessed be.
    Kristen
PS I’d love to see a video on casting and closing circles and do you begin first with calling upon one’s sacred individual (e.g., Archangel Michael) and then cast the circle? As for closing, do you speak to Archangel Michael first then close or vice versa?

    • magic says:

hi Kristen, this can be a confusing topic and it is important, very important,to do this properly. since we are dealing with the northern hemisphere, we will just speak about casting the circle for the northern hemisphere. the purpose of casting a circle is to close ALL portals except for your magic, hense you go widdershins (counter-clockwise). even if the spell is for drawing, you go widdershins. always widdershins, unless you are deliberately opening a portal, which i NEVER advise. portal management is a cumbersome and energy demanding magic and it is best left to portal keepers. you do not want to open portals to your magic or unwanted energies could cause interference patterns. depending upon the sacred space you call in or the circle cast you either lift the circle or you close it widdershins again. with candle magic, i call in sacred space with Archangel Michael. i assemble the alter. when i am ready to light the candle, i cast the circle around the candle or alter widdershins. when i am done, i lift the circle. that closes it. then i close sacred space with Archangel Michael with a prayer request. i will make a video on this discussion. i hope this answers the question as it is a very important concept. i remember spending a lot of time contemplating this topic. lotsa blessings of goodness and love to you, Marianne

      • Kristen says:

        Hi Marianne,
Thank you for the prompt reply. Wow so it seems I did the red/black incorrectly as I cast the circle deosil. Maybe that’s why the “speed bump” in the candle wick going out into the puddle of wax just a short way before completely burning down. Ugh. I guess this calls for a re-do of it?

Will you explain how to “lift a circle” after completion of a ritual? And how to close sacred space with Archangel Michael with a prayer request?

I presume it’s okay to use the white/black double action for health and not just protection?

Lastly, the new moon is Monday and ideally I would start a double action tomorrow night. However, I cannot start it until Saturday evening. My question is…is it okay if on Friday morning, to at least do the inscribing (mirror writing on black and positive on white) tomorrow as some of the preparation as I will be on limited time on Saturday evening. Or must all the work including prep work be done at the same time?

As always, thank you so very much and blessed be.
        Kristen

        • magic says:

          hello Kristen!

always a pleasure hearing from you! to lift a circle, use the index and middle fingers of both hands and place these where the circle is and using that motion, lift this circle to the heavens – watch it get smaller and smaller as it rises to the sky until, in your mind’s eye, you see no more of it. then extend your dominant hand over the area where you just did your work and say, “so mote it be.” or some other affirmation such as, “amen” or “so it is.”

to close sacred space with Archangel Michael, ask him for protection. then employ the sacred insurance policy, in the following video:

          http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/02/sacred-insurance-policy/

then ask Archangel Michael to close sacred space. it is a prayer.

yes, you can use a black/white double action candle for any energy you wish to banish, transmute and to draw. perfectly fine.

it is fine to begin working on this on Friday as the moon is waning, so you have the energy with you. you do not have to do the prep work all at the same time; however, i would cover your prep work with a scarf or pillow case and ask the angels of light to protect it.

i hope this is helpful. you are very wise to approach your magic with such reverence! well done.

          lotsa love and blessings, Marianne

            Hi Marianne!
Hope all is well with you. Okay so I am wondering, the first time I did a double-action candle (red/black) the black was solid black until you got to the second color. That online shop however has been out of double action candles and so I had to buy a green/black from luckymojo. I just did the green/black last weekend and the black 1/2 was only a coating of black over the green. Is this okay? It seems that the black should be solid. But now searching online I am unable to find double-actions that have the black solid and not just a coating. Your thoughts?
Second, is it necessary to always use fresh batch of sea salt when cleansing candles? Is it okay to reuse sea salt?
            Thank you. Blessed be.
            Kristen

          • magic says:

hi Kristen! always a pleasure to hear from you! there are two schools of thought about the solid black vs. coating on candles – one school of thought says it has to be solid and would disagree with what i am about to say – my school of thought is intention trumps everything. it is the intention that counts. i have used both with equal measures of success. and a big NO it is not OK to reuse sea salt. once you use it, toss it. sea salt absorbs negativity, so you always want the most potent seas salt, which would always be a new batch. you do not have to bury the candle, a handful in a bag with some rosemary is just fine to cleanse it. then the rosemary and sea salt and bag get tossed, not to be used again. it is an excellent question..that is why you never want to run out of fresh sea salt! lotsa love, marianne

  36. Kristen says:

    Hi Marianne,
Thank you for the response. So…. in that case I have put candles in reused sea salt. I’m thinking then it’s best to re-do any spells in which this was the case?

And, would you believe that the green/black wick fell into the pool of wax when there was about 1/4″ of candle left?! Am I not meant to have what I’m praying for? As you may recall the same thing happened with the red/black.

if the wick is falling into the pool of wax before the candle is finished burning, it means more work needs to be done. since this happened with two different double action spells, here’s what i recommend doing. do a banishing spell. get a black candle only. on the dark moon, banish all interference and negativity – ask for it to be transmuted to light and sent to where ever it came, with love and blessings, for the recipient(s) to use only to correct any karma and not for any other purpose. then ask for all voids to be filled with light. then, redo your spells and see how that goes.

the art of reading candles is called candlemancy. the art of reading the fire is pyromancy. you might enjoy researching the remains of your spells for more clues. this gives you information.

never be discouraged. you are meant to have everything you want! sometimes we just have to remove some blockages! don’t be discouraged. sometimes magic takes a few tries and it is good if things are revealed because this gives you clues on how to proceed next.

      blessings, MArianne

      • Kristen says:

        Hi Marianne,
Thanks for the response. I’m trying to not be discouraged but if you can have seen the look on my face when I saw the wick had fallen into the pool of wax and gone out with a little of the candle still left, why it must have been a look of “I can’t believe this happened again.”

So the dark moon is which day exactly? Do I need a 9″ black candle or any size and if a dark moon falls on a Saturday is that even better?

Does the sea salt cleansing always need to be in paper bags? Sometimes they are hard to come by.

When you say “for the recipient(s) to use….” I’m confused there. Who is the recipient?

I have done some reading on both fire and candle wax. The flames seem to be doing just fine as I’ve seen them. Nothing there that was concerning. As for the wax, there isn’t usually much wax to see and I haven’t noticed anything but then I’m just learning that part. It is fascinating though.

        Blessed be, many thanks,
        Kristen

        Thank you. Blessed be.

          hi Kristen,

i think everyone who does magic has been through this frustration! i have gone through 6 candles in one ritual just because i made mistakes. when that happens, take a deep breath and give yourself a break and then begin again. sometimes certain spells just have some energy that needs clearing and it takes extra tries.

you do not have to always use paper bags. as long as the items are in an opaque container that is fine. a box or plastic bag work fine.

who ever created the interfering energy – if it is a thought form, curse, spell or whatever, you are just transmuting the energy using the black candle and encasing it in loving energy and sending it back to where ever it came from with love….and if it is someone who sent it to you, just in case, they can only use the loving energy to correct the error. it is a catch phrase to cover that base.

i have been frustrated with magic before – i really do understand. when that happens, i write everything down, plan it out and go really slowly. where did you buy the candles that had that issue?

the next new moon is march 8th, so the dark moon would be 3 days before that at sunset….so the fifth at sunset.

good you are learning about pyromancy and candlemancy. it is all fascinating!

          blessings to you, marianne

      • Kristen says:

        Marianne,
        Another thought…
the dark moon is not the same as the new moon is it?
And is there a deity to best call upon for this black candle/banishing help? Is Goddess Hecate, for instance, a deity to call upon in this case? Or are there others?

        Thank you!
        Kristen

        • magic says:

          hi Kristen,

here’s a video that might help explain the moon phases. it is a bit tricky to understand this, the dark moon is at sunset 3 days before the new moon, which is the first crescent illuminated on the right side. when the moon waxes, the right side is illuminated; when it wanes, the left side is illuminated.

          http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/02/moon-phases-and-magic/

this video will help to understand this.

you can call upon whatever deity you feel is best; this should be a deity with whom you have a rapport or wish to establish a rapport. shiva, the destroyer of darkness, is a good one. but it is a personal choice.

you are welcome! you are doing fabulously well!!!

          blessings, marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Marianne,
Okay that’s what I thought you had said but I wasn’t sure. Since the new moon, technically we cannot see, it gets a bit confusing.

            Couple things…
            1) Does the bag or box have to be new each use like the salt does?

            2) Do I need to use a 9″ black candle or can it be any size. And, do I have to inscribe something on it? Do I inscribe what you said to say? If so, I imagine it has to be in mirror writing? Or am I just saying it out loud as I light the candle?

            3) Do I need to cut the tip off of it and create a new tip at the other end even though it’s not a double action candle? Does the candle have to be dressed with a reversing oil?

            4) Are double action and banishing spell candles supposed to be used on a mirror?

            5) So since I don’t know who or what may be sending the negativity my way, I just call that person or persons the “recipients”? Okay

As for the candles, the first one I purchased, which was the red/black was from 13Moons.com It was solid black all the way through it’s half of the candle.
The second candle, the green/black was from luckymojo. The black on that candle was only a coating over green. I only discovered it once I started creating a new tip on the black end.
13moons is out of all double action candles and apparently they are having a hard time getting them back in for some reason.
I just ordered another round of double action from luckshop. A rep there indicated that the black is solid and not just a coating. I will find out come the next dark moon.

Thank you as always. I try to organize and prepare as best as possible. I have everything written down so with all the steps in order. Unfortunately, the one thing I cannot control is the burn of the candle. The flame was really good and strong, nothing unusual about it, with either of the two double actions I did. Ugh.

            Blessed be,
            Kristen

          • magic says:

            hi Kristen,

the new moon is the 1st sliver of a crescent to be seen. just before that, for 3 nights, the moon is dark, no moon is seen. it took me a while to understand this, too.

            1. the bag or box does not have to be new.

            2. the candles can be any size. i use chime candles because they only take 90 minutes to burn. you do not have to inscribe anything on the candle, but you must be clear in your intention. i like to inscribe. if you do inscribe, use mirror writing because mirror writing sends the energy back. you could inscribe “the enemy” or “blockages to manifestation” or “blockages to magic being completed” or “interference patterns” or what ever you feel the problem to be. you can put all the words on one candle. be clear with your intention.

            3. do not cut the tip off when it is not a double action candle, just use the candle in the form it is. the candle should be dressed with oil, and it does not have to be reversing oil. you can use oil of your choosing.

            4. you do not need a mirror; however, reversing candles typically use mirrors. craft mirrors work well for this. i would not use a mirror for a banishing spell.

            5. i would call the person something more specific, like “the enemy” or “the interference pattern” or “the problem” – try to identity it.

since you are ordering from a variety of vendors, it is not a defect in the candle and this is very good information which you can clear in your banishing ritual.

i think when stuff like an incomplete burn happens more than once, it is very good information to show you what you need to do to make your magic work. once you bust through this blockage, your spells will give you the success you want!

i always enjoy your questions! they show you are thinking and really putting solid intention to your work! don’t feel badly about the incomplete burn, this is a sign and it is teaching you how to read signs and what to do….it is good to know. you did very well reading these signs.

            many blessings, marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Thank you Marianne!
So the black candle is considered a banishing spell and thus no mirror. But is a double action candle considered reversing in which case you do use a mirror?

            Blessed be,
            Kristen

          • magic says:

hi Kristen, that’s right! a black candle is used for banishing spells. double action candles are considered reversing and reclaiming what is yours, purified. the mirror is optional, but it does give the spell more potency. when we add layers, it makes our magic more difficult to track or counter. you are doing very well!!! blessings, Marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Hi Marianne,
I have a some more questions. The first has to do with the black candle for banishing as we’ve discussed. I have only reversing oil (I have a variety of oils including jasmine, ylang ylang, vanilla, lavender, & some others but I’m thinking none of those are appropriate for a banishing spell?). Is it not okay to use reversing oil? Is that to be used only on a double action candle?

            2) Do you have any idea how long it takes for a glass candle to burn? I have one for Our Lady of Perpetual Help (yes, I still have some of that catholicism in me) and it’s supposed to be burned for 7 days straight, but it doesn’t give any length of time as to how long each day to burn in order to burn it through in 7 days.

            3) I didn’t know where to post this one but it has to do with spell instructions I was going over. I was planning to do a spell for better communication. It says to cast circle then a cast a square. At the end of the ritual it says to take the crushed herb and go outside and toss it in the air. Then you are supposed to come back inside and close your formations. Here’s the confusion….
If I go outside first and toss the crushed herb before I close formations, am I not breaking the formation? I have never created an opening in a formation (not purposefully anyway) only to go back and close it. I’m not sure about it.
Then, is there anything wrong with closing the formations and THEN going outside to toss the crushed herb in the air?
Please help. I was wanting to do the spell this evening as it is a waxing moon and being Wedn, I’ve read that Wedn are good days for communication. I have everything all planned and ready to go as always! But then I realized the confusion with ending this spell.
            Thank you. Blessed be.
            Kristen

          • magic says:

            hi Kristen,

            once again, all excellent questions!

            1. i would not advise using reversing oil for a banishing ritual because these are two different energies and it could make brooms dance. reversing gives the negativity back and reclaims what is yours where the banishing is a releasing of the energy from you. you can take a small amount of olive oil and put it into a jar, separate from your cooking stuff. bless this oil as described in this video: http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/01/bless-oil/ at underworldclassroom. now you have an all purpose magical oil to use for your candle dressing. you could use this oil for any ritual.

            2. glass candles can take about 1 week to burn, but sometimes they take longer, sometimes less time. with glass encased candles you are supposed to burn them straight through and they are pretty safe; however, you can always put a plate on top of the candle to snuff it out and say, “please suspend the candle but not the prayer” and then when you are ready to re-light it, you ask for the prayer to be re-opened and relight it. many would disagree with me, but i have found this to be a successful technique, so if the candle is burning too quickly, you can use this method. i think as long as it burns a bit each day for 7 days and your prayers are said over it, that should be fine. our lady of perpetual help is a goddess and an aspect of the goddess. 🙂

            3. i agree with you! this is exactly why i always encourage you to ask why and when it does not make sense, question it! i would lift the formations first and part of getting rid of the remains is giving the herb to the air (the sylphs). so you are right in your assessment! well done. you could lift the square, then give the herb to the air, then lift the circle and do as the spell calls….or you could lift both formations and give the herb to the air and dispose of the remains according to the spell. i am so glad you questioned this! you just advanced to another level! this is why i never say to just execute the spell…you have to understand what you are doing and always with reverence. btw, a square with a circle inside of it is a very sacred shape, used in the mystery schools and it pertains to advancing the temporal lobes and psychic development, so i imagine this is a potent spell!

blessings to you. always love your questions!
            Marianne

          • Kristen says:

            Hi Marianne,
Thank you for explaining the difference between reversing & banishing. Now I get it & why not to use reversing oil on the banishing candle.

I will trust that Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be perfectly fine in the event I need to suspend the flame & relight. I think she would put safety first. My mother would be shocked if she saw all of the “Saints/Catholic” candles I now have. She’d be so pleased to know that Catholic upbringing hasn’t gone completely to waste!

Now, here I go again…. so with the communication ritual, I began by casting circle then the square. As I was taking the next steps of lighting the candles I realized I cast clockwise instead of counterclockwise. So, I released the formations, caught my breath, took a few moments and started over facing North & going counterclockwise.

This is where I still get confused…some of my reading says to walk the circle (and in the case the added element of the square) 3x while casting the circle. So I did that. When it comes time to releasing/lifting, I walked 3x counterclockwise as I visualized the square (first) going into the ground, then I walked the circle 3x doing the same. However, I started the releasing/lifting of both square & circle facing the South rather than North. I then went outside and blew the remains into the wind.

But did I mess up by starting the release of the square and circle in the South rather than North? I did go counterclockwise. The intent was there.

            Thank you, Blessed be,
            Kristen

          • magic says:

hi Kristen, this is why the more complex the ritual, the easier it is to make mistakes, but the more difficult it is for a Dark Magician to track or cause problems. yes, technically, you made a mistake; however you can correct it – go back into sacred space and roll back to the ritual where you were lifting the square and circle. ask that it be corrected. then hold your palm out and move it in a counter-clockwise direction, facing north. this closes any portals. then say, “so mote it be” or “blessed be” or “amen” to affirm it. then close sacred space. it will be fine. when ever there are complex rituals, i like to write down every single detail, which direction i face, what i do, every tedious detail on paper. i check it off as i go because it is very difficult to do everything perfectly for the complex spells. but know, you can always correct it by opening sacred space, rolling time and space rippling (by asking for it), and making the correction, affirm it and close sacred space. i will check my email very soon. many blessings, Marianne

I see that the black candle will be a banishing spell. But, I just thought of this… do I take the remains, if there any (many times 4″chime candles don’t leave remains), and leave at a crossroads in this case?

        Kristen

        • magic says:

hello Kristen, yes the chime candles can leave very little, if any remains. sometimes just a small fragment of a wick or a small piece of wax. the remains must be disposed of properly and a crossroads is a very good place for the remains.

    AND
about university , in my university some of the professor / teacher are very strict and hard And do not help to anyone . so is there any oil or other thing that the professor / teacher helped me And give me a good grade and i passed semester ? for example i told to my professor please help me in this term and he or she accept ? , is there any way for this problem ?

thanks again for all of your guide

    • magic says:

hello! yes, there is a very simple thing you can do if mistake happens. all you have to do is ask Archangel Michael to take it all away and you can start over. You say, “i want this cancelled and i give it all to Archangel Michael to please burn this in the flame of the Holy Spirit.” that will get rid of ceremonies that backfire or have problems.

i think i understand your question to be to get the professor to help you. we can’t control anyone, so if the person does not help us, we ask for help from where ever God sends it. it does not have to be the professor, so do the magic to ask for help and let the help come from where ever it is destined to come.

i hope this answers your questions.

is your mean there are any magic to help because some teacher are relay very strict and reject most of university student and we must try new semester
    thanks again

    • magic says:

hello. i am not sure i understand your question; however, i will try to answer. if i do not successfully answer the question, please feel free to ask again. if you make a mistake, you can always ask your angels to correct it. if you do something and there is a consequence in response to your magic, you can prevent this by asking that all consequences be lifted as a result. so a prayer would cover this. what i mean to say regarding certain teachers is that we are not allowed to control people – that would make our magic dark. all you can do is ask for things to go a certain way – for example, you pass the test, you do very well with it, you want assistance, etc. for example, if you ask for assistance, it does not have to come from the professor, it can come from another student, another professor, the person in the library – the point is to go for the result without controlling any of the people. i hope this is helpful. many blessings, Marianne

    HI Marianne,
    So clarification on the casting/lifting/releasing…

Is it necessary to walk around a circle 3x when casting & lifting? Can I just start by facing north and as you said, forefinger & middle of dominant hand extended just turn counterclockwise ending back in the north again?
Is it supposed to be done 3x? Or is once around the circle appropriate?

As for lifting/releasing…do I start in the North again?

I do write everything down and still manage to forget something or mess up. So it’s okay to be looking at my notes/steps on paper as I go along? That doesn’t negatively impact the flow?

    Thank you!

    • magic says:

      hi Kristen,

when you are using a spell, understand why and what it is about. this spell has you walking to create the circle. it is one way to cast a circle. i recommend using your fingers as you described to draw the circle – you are not turning, you are extending your arm and drawing the circle – you imagine a beam of light coming into your crown chakra and it goes to your heart, then flows up your shoulders and down your arm and out your fingers. you draw the circle around your work. if you cast the circle with yourself in it, you have to stay in the circle; if you cast the circle around your alter, you can move around and your work is protected.

it is perfectly OK and necessary to refer to your notes while you do the work. that helps you and will enhance your magic.

    Hi Marianne,
I think you may have already answered this question as I asked it quite some time ago, but is it okay to cleanse multiple candles in sea salt all at one time?

And do you recommend cleansing our magical tools such as wands, etc with holy water?

    Thank you.

    • magic says:

      hi Kristen,

yes it is OK to cleanse multiple candles in sea salt all at once. you can bless your tools with holy water as a maintenance or a blessing, but everything should be cleansed in sea salt when you first get it. energy is impressed upon matter, so you always want to clear any energy from the manufacturer, delivery, sales, etc. if you have a lot of stuff, smudge it for now and bit by bit you can catch up with cleansing everything. remember, it is your intention that matters above all!

      • magic says:

        hi Kristen,

when a spell is completed, what ever is left is called the Remains. the Remains are never to be used for other purposes other than what was intended by the spell. if you have 1/2 candle left over, that should be disposed of properly. it is charged with the spell and it could corrupt the completed spell and future spells if it is re-used. best to always begin with a new candle UNLESS the spell specifically calls for it.

    Hi Marianne,
With the black banishing candle, I will use oil and bless it as your video shows. Because it is a banishing spell, I assume that as I dress the candle with oil, that I am facing North and the wick end is facing away from me? Is this correct?

    • magic says:

      hi Kristen,

The video is for a double action and I’m going to do a 4″ black chime for banishing only. So that’s where I’m wondering then about dressing it with oil. Since it’s just a 4″ all black in this case do I dress it with wick end facing away from me while facing north?
Would I say the same thing while dressing it as I would for the black part on a double action candle?
        Thank you. Blessed be.

    • magic says:

      hi Kristen,

don’t worry about this. your focus and intention are what matters when you are dressing the candle. if you get too technical, you can lose the power of your will, which must be stronger than the technique. it is the will, focus and intention that really give magic it’s steam and power.

    Marianne,
OMG, I’m so sorry. I forgot to ask though I believe I may have previously…

Is it okay to reuse candles that are leftover from other spells? For example, when doing communication I didn’t finish the candles & it wasn’t required. I still have 1/2 of each candle remaining.

If it is okay, do they need to be re-cleansed & charged?

    I am so sorry!

  44. Kristen says:

Please forgive me. Will you please go over the casting and lifting of circles one more time as I continue to read, I keep getting conflicting info which is confusing me.
For banishing and reversing spells, you cast and lift counterclockwise? That is my understanding.

However, for all other spells that don’t involve negativity (e.g., love, job) you still cast and lift counterclockwise when living in the northern hemisphere?

Seriously please forgive me. I so want to get this right!

    • magic says:

i know it can be confusing. it does not matter what kind of spell you are doing – the purpose of casting a circle is to protect your magic. it does not matter if it is banishing or drawing or transmuting or whatever, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, cast the circle counter-clockwise. if you live in the Southern Hemisphere, cast the circle clockwise. This directional motion closes all portals except your intention. it is your psychic boundary. what you do in the circle has no relation to the directional casting of the circle itself.

there is a lot of conflicting information about this – but if you do the opposite, you are opening portals and your magic is not protected. many spell books and the neo-wiccan movement does not agree with the traditions set by the ancestors. if you study the Order of the Golden Dawn and the American Dowsing Society and teachings of the indigenous peoples, they will always go by the ways of the ancients.

be patient, it is a difficult concept because there is so much conflicting information out there.

      many blessings, Marianne

    Hi Marianne,
I hope you’re okay. Sent a couple of messages, one last week & one in the latter half of February. Haven’t heard back from you. The second message is with regard to the double action candle from this past new moon.

    Blessed be,
    Kristen

  46. Kristen says:

    Hi Marianne,
As I’m about to prepare this evening for the start of the white/black double action I have some questions…

I am curious as to why you start the black part exactly three days prior to the new moon? Is it something to do with the number 3? Is it bad if you began the ritual two days or one day prior to the new moon?

I’m thinking that if started one day prior to the new moon then you wouldn’t have to snuff out the candle when the black has been burned down and then wait for the evening of the new moon to relight the white because the 30 hours burn time would work out almost in-sync.

So what is the magick of starting three days ahead? Then snuffing out and relighting? If you light it 3 days before new moon and left the candle to burn without snuffing out then the white (or red or green) would have burned down long before the eve of the new moon started?

Also, as you know I have problems with the wick falling into the wax just prior to completing the entire burn, so is it okay to trim the wick some prior to relighting on the eve of the new moon?

    Thank you,
    Blessed be
    Kristen

    • magic says:

      hi Kristen,

3 days before the new moon is the phase called the Dark Moon. Watch the moon phases videos on Underworldclassroom for a better understanding: http://www.underworldclassroom.com/2011/02/moon-phases-and-magic/

i would recommend trimming the wick before oiling/dressing/blessing the candle. if the wick falls due to a candle defect, i would consider buying candles from another source. remember your intention is the real magic, so if the wick falls before, you could also say, “so mote it be,” employ the sacred insurance policy and be done with it IF you can make your will that strong, which i believe you can.

hello. lucky mojo is a fabulous site for oils and other supplies. go slowly with their oils because they are very very potent! on their web site, when you are looking at the oils, there are prompts on “all about” and “free information and spells”. if you do not find what you are looking for, you can work with the oils, 1 at a time…don’t put them all on at once because that is way too much energy….after you shower, when you want to draw something to you, you dress yourself with the oils by applying a bit behind each knee and a bit behind the neck and touch the top of your head, then extend your arms to encompass your aura. that will put the scent into your auric field and also on the parts of your body that draw things. i would not mix the oils, but do only 1 at a time….you can also use these to dress a candle and there are videos on how to do that as well….i hope this helps. lotsa blessings to you! I am trying to do the reversal spell however do not have any oil how would I go getting oil

you can easily make oil – just get a small jar of olive oil, and bless it. there is a video on how to do that. only use this oil for magic, do not cook with it or consume it. if you can’t get to the store, take oil from your kitchen and put some into a separate jar. then bless the oil in the separate jar and only use that oil for magic. i hope this is helpful. many blessings, Marianne
